Yellow Fever vaccination on Caledonian Road
A registered Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre since 2025
You've booked the flights. Maybe it's a first safari, a trip home to see family, or work that's taking you somewhere new. Then someone mentions yellow fever, and suddenly there's a question hanging over the whole trip: will they even let me in?
We can help you answer that calmly and properly. For six years, travellers from across North London have come to us for their yellow fever vaccine and certificate. We'll make sure you leave protected, with the paperwork you need, and with far fewer worries than you arrived with.
Is the vaccine right for you?
The yellow fever vaccine is a live vaccine, so it isn't suitable for everyone. That's why we never just give the injection. We start with a proper consultation about your health, your medicines and your trip.
We'll take extra care if you:
are pregnant or breastfeeding
have a weakened immune system, from illness or medicines
have had problems with your thymus gland
have a severe egg allergy
are aged 60 or over, as the risk of rare serious side effects is higher
If the vaccine isn't safe for you, we'll tell you honestly. Where appropriate, we can talk about an exemption letter and other ways to protect yourself. Your safety comes before a stamp in a booklet.
Why it matters
Yellow fever is a viral infection spread by mosquitoes in parts of sub-Saharan Africa and tropical South America. Many people have mild symptoms, but some become seriously ill. There's no specific cure, which is why prevention matters so much.
Some countries also require proof of vaccination before they'll let you in, sometimes even if you're only passing through an at-risk country on the way. Without a valid certificate, you could be refused entry, vaccinated at the border, or quarantined.
Your certificate
When you're vaccinated, we give you an official International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis. It's the small yellow booklet border officials recognise. It becomes valid 10 days after your vaccination, and for most people it lasts for life.
So please don't leave it too late. Aim to book at least 3 to 4 weeks before you fly, and never less than 10 days if your destination needs the certificate.

If you were vaccinated with us, get in touch and we'll look up your record. If you were vaccinated elsewhere, contact that centre first. Either way, don't panic, and don't travel without sorting it out.

For most people, one dose gives lifelong protection and the certificate stays valid for life. A small number of people may need another dose, for example if they were vaccinated during pregnancy or while their immune system was weakened. We'll check your situation.

Children are usually vaccinated from 9 months of age. Younger babies are only considered in exceptional circumstances. If you're travelling with little ones, speak to us early so we can plan properly.

The injection itself is quick. Some people get a sore arm, a headache, mild fever or aches for a few days, which usually settle with rest and simple pain relief. We'll tell you what to watch for and when to get in touch.

Often, yes. There are a few timing rules with live vaccines, so tell us everything you've had recently or have planned, and we'll build a schedule that works.
